  3. The Muslim majority : folk Islam and the seventy percent

    • Ebog

The Muslim majority : folk Islam and the seventy percent

    2021
Summary: More than 70 percent of Muslims worldwide practice folk Islam, a syncretistic mix of theologically orthodox Islam and traditional religious beliefs and practices. The Muslim Majority is unlike many published works on evangelism to Muslims, which argue for either apologetic or contextualized "bridge" approaches. These approaches are often ineffective in reaching adherents of popular Islam. Instead, author and missiologist Robin Hadaway outlines a contextual approach that addresses the unique perspective of popular Islam. Hadaway explains the differences between folk Islam and orthodox Islam and explores best practices for reaching the vast majority of Muslims with the gospel of Jesus Christ

Vesten tabte til jihadisterne, fordi vi affejede dem som primitive middelalderlige hulemænd

    I: Politiken, 2021-08-28, Sektion 2, s. 1-2

    I: Kristeligt dagblad, 2021-01-11, S. 4

  10. Violence in Islamic thought from European imperialism to the post-colonial era

    • Ebog

Violence in Islamic thought from European imperialism to the post-colonial era

    2021
Summary: "Muslim attitudes toward violence have been reshaped in light of the colonial context since the 18th and 19th centuries, and in response to regional and world-changing events of the contemporary period. This volume shows the diversity of approaches to violence in Islamic thought, avoiding the limiting characterisations of Islam being inherently 'violent' or 'peaceful'. It shows how ideas of 'justified violence' -- grounded in Islamic theological and juristic traditions -- reoccur throughout history, up to the contemporary period. Chapters on earlier events provide context for contemporary debates on violence, showing how traditional legal and theological ideas (such as the sovereignty of God's law and peace treaties) are used to both legitimise and de-legitimise violence. Violence in Islamic Thought from European Imperialism to the Post-Colonial Era is the final volume in the Violence in Islamic Thought trilogy. Taken together, the three books cover key aspects of violence in Islamic thought from the earliest time to the present day, mapping a trajectory of thinking about violence over 14 centuries of Islamic history."
